After a long, busy week, the last thing you might feel like doing is going out. Since you might not be up for late nights out, that doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of your free time over the weekend. While I’m all up for a cozy evening in, watching a Netflix movie and binging on take-out, I’ve also realized that weekends are a great time to enjoy a change of scenery (and new experiences).
Sometimes just a novel idea is all it takes for us to forge ahead on an exciting new path that takes us further than we’ve ever dreamed of. To inspire you to do something relaxing (and fun!) this weekend, here are 5 fresh ideas.
Explore New Neighborhoods
Have you ever noticed that when you slow down, you can truly stop and smell the roses? Take a break this weekend to go explore new neighborhoods on foot. Venture out into areas that you have yet to discover, take a camera (or your cellphone) along to capture beautiful, inspiring moments, and just enjoy being outside.
Get Cooking with New Recipes
A trip to a local farmer’s market can inspire you to get creative again in the kitchen. From fresh produce to awesome cookbooks, trying your hand at new recipes will get your creative juices flowing. Plus, it’s always fun to switch up your tried-and-true meals with unique and interesting seasonally-inspired dishes.
Get a Buzz at a Local Coffee Shop
Whether you go to a local coffee shop to catch up with friends, read a book, or listen to live poetry readings, sometimes switching up your routine by hitting up a different coffee shop is all you need to refresh your outlook. Discover where the locals love to hang out and spend a few hours lounging at a quirky coffee shop.
Go Wine Tasting
Instead of just pouring a glass of wine in the comfort of your home (after a long, tiring week), why not make it an outing? A fun-filled, informative wine tasting at a winery is a great way to recharge your batteries while learning something new and interesting. Plus, wine tastings are a great experience for people to enjoy together, so invite your best friends, your beau, or even your family members along with you.
Read an Inspiring Book
Whether you head to the pool or the beach, make sure to pack an inspiring book to read. From motivational books to spiritual self-help books, catching up on material that can catalyze you to think differently, shift your perspective, and form new habits is one of the best ways to refresh your outlook. A few of my favorite authors (who always put me in a good mood) are Joel Osteen, Tony Robbins, Jen Sincero, Gabby Bernstein, and Maria Shriver.
No matter what you decide to do over the weekend, make sure to enjoy and savor each moment. In these “free” moments, you have the power to change your life and refresh your outlook. By making the most of your weekends, you’ll not only feel recharged and rejuvenated, but it will also help to set the tone for the week ahead.
